Caption : Going with the rapid growth of mall concept for retail business in the 21 century, the age-old New Market in Kolkata might have lost its pristine glory and image. But certainly the concept of retail business, which was conceptualised during the British period in the Nineteenth and early Twentieth centuries in Kolkata, has not been lost. New Market is among the oldest retail market plazas in the country built by the British and thrown open to Kolkata�s population on January 1, 1874. Today (June 27) at the Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries, the Chairman, Mr Mukesh Ambani, said organised retailing would be the "next big idea" in the company�s future plans.
