Caption : A study conducted by the Kerala Study Council for Science and Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) shows river pollution in the State is on the rise with unabated reclamation, silting and pollution from industries and human wastes damaging the estuarine and backwater ecosystem. Major water quality problem associated is that of bacterial infestation and among the polluted rivers are Chalakudy, Muvattupuzha, Meenachil, Pampa, Achenkovil and Periyar.
