Caption : Actress and an expert in handicraft, cooking and BAKING, Mumtaz Alam, in Chennai. Mumtaz Alam was born and brought up in Vietnam. When the Vietnam war started she came to India as a refugee in 1975. She started a Vietnamese refugee association with the women in the camp and there began her career in India in the field of cooking and BAKING. Her passion for cooking has made her conduct cooking classes for the past 20 years. She also teaches young women to make beautiful artefacts out of old newspapers, broken bangles, tissue paper, egg shells and plastic beads. She started a store 'The Craft Basket' at Adyar, to reach out to the poor and needy. She also does small roles in Tamil movies such as that of a teacher or nun on an honorary basis.
