Caption : Cardamom kept for sale in a spices shop in Kochi. The increased availability of cheap cardamom in the major international markets from Guatemala, the top producer of the spice, has caused a marginal decline in cardamom export from the country during the last fiscal year. The Indian productivity has also increased following the yield from hybrid varieties ranging from 300 kg to 1000 kg an acre, causing the supply to outweigh the demand thus pushing down the prices. The average market price of cardamom rules at Rs 300 a kg.
