Caption : Madhu Singhal, founder and managing trustee of Mitra Jyothi, a non-governmental organisation that works for the visually impaired, on Hosur Road, in Bangalore. She has been responsible for building a collection of over 20,000 cassettes in English, Hindi, Kannada, and Tamil for the trust's library. The cassettes are meant for both academic and general reading purposes. Mitra Jyothi has also helped gain employment to about 120 visually impaired, through its placement service launched in 1997. In keeping with information technology, the trust invited a group from the Singapore Youth Expedition Programme and the Singapore International Foundation. The Foundation donated 10 special computers to the trust, which has already trained 20 students in the basics of computers. Madhu Singhal keeps herself abreast of new developments that help the visually impaired.
