Caption : Athulya, one of the units at the Srishti Complex, is a unique venture of Tata Tea, for the rehabilitation of the physically challenged dependants of its employees. The unit, originally named Vocational Centre for the Physically Challenged, commenced as an envelope making unit with just 12 trainees in 1991. Today this unit has expanded so much that it almost fulfils all the stationery requirements of Tata Tea's South India plantation division, and about 25 youngsters with special needs are benefited. A novel idea of "wealth from waste" gave rise to the hand made paper unit in 1999, which decided to recycle waste paper, cut boards and other stationery waste from all the estate offices and decided to venture further to make hand made paper with other natural additives which are available around Munnar like tea waste, eucalyptus leaves, lemon grass, pineapple leaves, onion peel, flower petals etc. The unit produces nearly 52 eco-friendly, azo-free, biodegradable innovative products from basic handmade paper, and plans to experiment and introduce new METHODS and products, and also to expand marketing possibilities.
