Caption : GUWAHATI, ASSAM, 06/05/2016: An Indian Baya Weaver (Ploceus philippinus) bird enters in to her nest to feed her new born (unseen) in a betel nut tree in the outskirts of Guwahati city on May 06, 2016. It is the males which build their nests, stripping long grass and paddy, and weaving them into place between numerous trips. They are known for their elaborately woven nests. The Baya Weaver is a gregarious bird and breeds in colonies. They feed on seeds of different kinds and are known to damage seed crops. This bird breeds during the monsoons, in colonies of 20-30, close to sources of water, food and nesting material. The nest is a long graceful retort-shaped made of woven grass, with the mouth pointing downwards, suspended from the outer boughs of trees or bushes.
