Caption : Vendor selling papaya in Kochi in Kerala on Tuesday. Papayas are now sold at a price of Rs 10 per piece,last year it was Rs 20, and is on high demand in Kerala. The domestic papaya market mainly depends on supplies from neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Fruits and vegetable traders fear that the prices of fruits might go up in the coming days following the sudden drop in supplies from Tamil Nadu owing to the tension prevailing in the borders over the Mullaperiyar dam issue. The vegetable market has already started feeling the pinch, with the number of loads arriving in the domestic market recording a major dip.The papaya market in the State is mainly depends on Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
