Caption : KOCHI, 08/08/2010: A worker piling bales of coir yarn at a unit near Kochi in Kerala.The Government of Kerala has announced that it would declare 2010 as the 'National Year for Coir' and that a project has been prepared to form a consortium for collection of husk. With 10.05 lakh hectares under cultivation, coconut palms account for 45 per cent of the net cropped area in Kerala. A trademark registration had been obtained for Kerala Coir, styled as the 'Golden Yarn of God's Own Country'.
