VICTORIA AMAZONICA

Image ID: 10853775

Caption : KOLKATA, WEST BENGAL, 29/12/2006: A gardener handling the Victoria Amazonica plant at the Raj Bhavan pond in Kolkata. In 1810, botanist Haenke discovered the giant lily plant in a tributary of the Amazon. The rare species of aquatic flower was recently planted here and is in bloom now. The Governor of West Bengal, Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi, has decided to throw open the south gate of sprawling Raj Bhavan on December 30 for the nature lovers, so that they can visit the garden to witness the wonder species.
