Caption : St. Andrews Church on Poonamallee road. St. Andrew's Kirk was consecrated on the site of an Old Freemasons' Lodge in 1821. The spire's weathercock is 170 feet above the ground and the steeple is 10 feet taller than St. Martin's in London. A church of rare beauty, this chapel is one of the architectural marvels of 19th Century Madras. It was in St. Andrews's School that missionary education has a beginning. Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School is on of its offshoots.
