Caption : TRIPURA�29-10-2008 : (SRI CULTIVATION IN TRIPURA) Balaram Das (69) a farmer from Uttar Sarilum villager of Tripura shows the high yield paddy crop cultivated under the System of Rice Intensifying (SRI) method initiated by the Department of Agriculture of Tripura state. Earlier Balaram Das used to get 35 mounds of paddy from one accor of land where as with this new SRI method he received 45 mounds of paddy from the same plot of land last year. Das is one of thousands of small and marginal farmers, who constitute 90 per cent of total farmers in the state, who have adopted the popular 'less seed, less water, less manure, less pesticide and high yielding' SRI method of agricultural practices to be a part of government's approach to boosting rice production in the state.
