Caption : Huge size tapioca exhibited in a agrifair rcently held in Kochi, Kerala.The lower effective duty enjoyed by the importers of tapioca starch have raised concern of the domestic tapioca growers and starch producers who stress the need to protect tapioca, a crop that has dual value as an important input to both food and industrial application by raising import tariff on starch/ modified starch. Currently tapioca starch importers have to pay 30 per cent customs duty apart from safeguard duty and the domestic growers have requeasted the goverment to rise this to 50 per cent.
