Caption : A scenic beauty at dawn of a river near Kanjangad in Kasaragod district, Kerala. Local people are also seen engaged in sand mining. Blessed with a copious annual rainfall (3000mm), large number of rivers, chains of backwater bodies and number of ponds and water tanks, the state is considered as a land of surplus water resources. However, Indiscriminate sand mining and use of water and lack of proper management of resources has contaminated both surface and ground water, paving way for acute water shortage.
