The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) makes headway in spear heading a water shed based development in the backward districts of the state, like Palakkad, Wayanad, Idukki and Kasaragod. Between April 2006 and December 2007, 16.12 lakh mandays were created in Palakkad and 18 lakh mandays in Wayanad.
